secretary andrea saul. >> in the time it takes his latest ad to run, our national debt grows by at least another $5 million. team obama is quickly seizing on early voting. it was just as slow in labeling the attack on the u.s. embassy in libya as an act of terrorism. in an exclusive interview with nbc news and ann curry, claims were discounted the attack were in response to a video produced in california and available on youtube. >> would you call the attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi an act of terrorism? >> i have no doubt about that. and it's a preplanned act of terrorism directed against american citizens. >> do you think the movie had anything to do with this attack on the consulate? >> not on this attack. not on this attack. it has nothing to do with this attack. >> and yesterday white house press secretary told reporters traveling on air force one, "it's the case that it's our view as an administration, the president's view, that it was a terrorist attack." it's the first explicit acknowledgement that the president believes the libyan attack was an act of terror. secretary o

the convention speeches last night? the romney campaign. rapid response from romney spokesperson andrea saul. she said on the first night not a single speaker uttered the words americans are better off than they were four years ago. instead there was a night full of tributes to government as the solution to every problem. a pretty fair bet the romney people will not like tonight's speeches either. as we said the headliners are bill clinton, former president, and massachusetts senate candidate elizabeth warren. how close is this race? a new cnn/orc poll shows mitt romney getting a wee tiny bit of a bounce from last week's republican convention. both romney and president obama are now at 48%. that is a gain of one percentage point for mitt romney. the presidential horse race has gone from a virtual tie to an actual tie. 5:30 eastern we're going to talk about convention politics with margaret hoover, cnn contributor who served in the bush administration and democratic strategist and cnn contributor maria cardona. before that back to zoraida in new york. >> i know you stayed up late. you listened to

now here to respond andrea saul the press secretary to the romney campaign. good morning. good to have you. >> thank you. martha: we just watched ben labolt and bill speak being about the revelations that have come out of the situation in libya. we are learning more about an al-qaida connection to the raid on the consulate in benghazi. what is governor romney's take on what looks to be a resurgence of al-qaida in libya and a connection between all of these protests that we are seeing bursting out in the middle east? >> well governor romney has talked about for years the need for american strength and peace through strength. what we've seen with president obama is we don't know why he's leading from behind, we can't really figure out where he's taking a stand on these things, and the american people will judge him on the fact, are we more influential around the world than we were four years ago? and we simply are not. martha: does governor romney believe that we are still in a current war on terror in this country? >> we are. al-qaida is still active and present. this administration has

of massachusetts, he barely talks about his record. when andrea saul a. spokesperson for romney brought up the romneycare which is much like the affordable care act, you had republicans like ann coulter calling for her to be taken off the campaign. it's interesting to me that romney is not talking about what he did at visa -- vis-a-vis jobs as governor of massachusetts. this notion that we've had since ronald reagan, this trickle down idea that if you make the rich:er the money will trickle down to the poor has never proven to be true. i believe it's trickle up. that's what the president has tried to do by cutting taxes for 95 percent of working families, giving a number of tax breaks to small businesses. trickle up is you put money in the hands of people who are going to spend it, people on the margins, living paycheck to paycheck where $40 extra a week, which is what you get on average with the payroll tax cut, that makes a big difference and they're going to spend it and you spend it, the more people who spend it, the more demand there is, as you create demand. that's when employers hav
